Né le 1er avril 1949 à Chicago, Gil Scott Heron a été musicien, poète, romancier et chanteur depuis 1970. Il a notamment milité dans ses chansons contre la guerre, l'apartheid et l'énergie nucléaire. Il a succombé dans un hôpital new yorkais le 27 mai dernier.

 Gil Scott-Heron, who helped lay the groundwork for rap by fusing minimalistic percussion, political expression and spoken-word poetry on songs such as “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, passed away on May 27 at age 62.
