(NECN: Paris, France) - Barack Obama met with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris today, where they discussed Iran, Iraq and other issues.
"I think the average American has enormous fondness for the French people. I think the American voter understands that problems like climate change or energy or terrorism cannot be solved by any one country alone. I has to be a group effort. Establishing partnerships is so important," said Obama.
"The greater the commitment from our NATO allies, and the more those committed troops are not restrained, in terms of their rules of engagement, the more it frees up the United States from having to send even more troops. I am so grateful for the French troop presence that already exists, and President Sarkozy's willingness to send more troops," said the Democratic presidential candidate.
"War is never easy, but Afghanistan is a war that we have to win. We do not have an option," said Obama.
